Resource Centre

The Resource Centre, located in node five, is designed for students needing extra assistance and/or enrichment in academic programs. This is a non-credit program known as academic support. Our goal is to meet the educational needs of all students. Students who attend Resource Centre have been identified from previous school records and through recommendations from formal testing, previous school programs and/or from the adaptations which have been in place.

Current CEC students requesting assistance in the Resource Centre must be recommended by the school’s Site-Based Team, in collaboration with subject teachers and parents. However, students who do not access the Resource Center on a formal basis, are welcome, upon request, for extra help during breaks and after school. Our Resource Centre contains many resources that are available to students and teachers.

Teaching Support Team

Every school will establish a Teaching Support Team that will meet frequently to address immediate issues facing teachers and quickly identify resources, people, and strategies that can help those teachers more effectively support their students. The team, in collaboration with the classroom teacher, will monitor and evaluate the success of these supports and interventions.

Principals or vice principals will lead the teams, which will also include learning support teachers. Teachers will attend if discussions involve their classroom, students, or teaching practices.

When a student is referred, the Teaching Support Team will review the student’s learning profile, gather historical information and information from current teachers. Recommendations will be made to support student success. Parents/Guardians can refer by calling Student Services (896-5712) and speaking to a guidance counsellor.
