Our Community

Our school sits on the unceded traditional territory of the Mi’kmaq in the district of Sipekne'katik. For thousands of years before Europeans settled in the area, Mi’kmaw people inhabited this land. Throughout the late 1600s, 1700s and 1800s Acadian, Ulster Scot and Black settlers came to the region and established the town now called Truro.

The population of Truro today is approximately 13, 000. A range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds are represented here. Our community has benefited from the diversity of its people.

Truro, nicknamed “The Hub of Nova Scotia”, has a vibrant downtown core which incorporates local shops and businesses, the Marigold Cultural Centre, a farmer’s market and public library.  The outdoor civic square provides skating in winter; concerts and festivals in the summer.

A wide range of recreation activities, playgrounds and parks can be found in Truro.  Victoria Park, a 3000 hectare greenspace, includes a public outdoor pool, a series of hiking trails as well as the Railyard bike trails system.  The Rath Eastlink Centre, Cougar Dome and Legion Stadium provide additional options for leisure activities like skating/hockey, tennis, rockwall climbing and swimming.
